In an era of increasing social isolation, one young man from a small town in New South Wales is determined to take a risk.
Floyd George is an American who is living with his parents in Melbourne, Australia, after escaping a US prison for murder in 2002.
The 28-year-old is a US citizen and a student at the University of Queensland.
His parents have no idea where he’s going, nor what his plans are.
I don’t know what to expect.
He says: ”I’m scared to die.”
Floyds dad is very much alive, but his dad is not.
”He’s just gone.”
I was in the shower and I heard a knock on the door, and I opened it and he had just come out, saying he was at a friend’s house, and he’d been to a friend of his’s house before.
He didn’t say where, but he was still there.”
He was in a bit of a state, but I think he knew that he couldn’t leave me, that he was a good person, he’s not going to leave me.”
I was just thinking: ”How can I make him see that?”’
Floyd and his mum had no idea what was going to happen next.
When they got to the house, they found his dad dead.
My heart goes out to them, but it doesn’t mean that they’ll be OK.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a parent or a stranger, you’re not going out with someone who’s dying in front you, you can’t let that happen to anyone.
They didn’t know if he was dead or alive.
‘I can’t even cry, it hurts me to even think about it.”
It’s so heartbreaking because he’s a good man, a good son, a great father, a very good man.
There’s no way you can live a life like that.”
My heart hurts, but that’s how I feel, because that’s what’s happening to him.”
We’re not the only ones who’ve been there.
One of my friends from a different school, I’ve known her since she was a little girl, she’s in her mid-30s, and she’s been through that too, so she’s experienced it as well.
She’s a very close friend.
What happened to him was very sad.”
They weren’t sure how it happened, and they didn’t want to know, but they did know they had to do something to help him.
But they didnt know how to do it.
If I knew what to do, they wouldn’t have done it.”
Flowers and a card are placed at his familys house, where his parents had to flee.
After being told his dad was in Australia, Floyd moved with his family to Sydney, where he started working in the construction industry, but has been out of work since his fathers death.
Even after getting a job, Floyd said he couldnt go back to the job he loved because of the stigma that comes with being a prisoner.
And, like many Australians, he was also worried about his safety and well-being in the city.
I’m just scared to be left alone, he said.
So, Floyd has decided to take the risk.
He and his parents were planning to move back to their hometown of Melbourne, but now they will stay.
Now they are preparing for the long road ahead.
We are still struggling with it, they said.”
At the end of the day, I’m going to be okay, and thats what I want, to be with my kids.”
There is so much more that we dont understand about these situations, and it doesnt matter what the law is, you still have to go through it.
”I donts understand what to say, what to feel.
Just let it be, let it happen.”
